Our story

From a national movement to a local legacy.

1963

The movement begins

Concerned African American men in New York City began meeting to explore ways to improve conditions in their community, helping establish the movement that became 100 Black Men of America.

2004

Akron becomes a chapter

Tony Grimes, Gary Wyatt, Greg Partridge and Michael J. Irby founded the Akron chapter with youth mentoring as its primary focus.

Then

Programs take root

The chapter served youth at Rankin, Schumacher, Helen Arnold and Portage Path elementary schools and developed the Leadership Academy and Daughters in Leadership.

Today

A continuing commitment

The chapter continues building opportunity through mentoring, education, health and wellness, economic empowerment and collegiate leadership.

Four For The Future
